Announcing Houston’s newest collaborative arts organization, HoustonArts Partners; Arts 4 All.

On Tuesday, September 28th Houston’s educational and philanthropic leaders spoke to the importance of the arts and student exposure to the arts in the classroom with the support of 16 major arts organizations and 53 Houston area ISD’s.

Houston Arts Partners; Arts 4 All, was created in response to a specific request from Houston area administrators for a more efficient and effective method to access arts educational resources in Houston. The result is Houston’s newest collaborative organization and resulting web site: www.HoustonArtsPartners.org, the suite of services provided through this site, and support by the staff of Houston Arts Partners, ranging from centralized, online booking services, to full service grant writing and customized collaborative program support. An integral part of Houston Arts Partners is the presentation of an Annual Conference, creating a platform where artists and arts organizations convene with the educational community to support and respond to changing short and long term curriculum and overall school needs, artist training, professional development, presentation of best practices in arts integration, collaborative opportunities, use of curriculum guides, the arts partners web/scheduling system, educational research, and the efficient exchange of information. The goal of the Conference is an improved quality and deepening of relationships where supportive collaboration will emerge, enhancing the creativity, learning, innovation, and life skills of students.

Houston Arts Partners; Arts 4 All will present its first conference, Shaping the Future of Education & Creating 21st Century Leaders, on September 13, 2011 at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston as part of National Arts In Education Week. The conference will bring together a diverse representation of 300 educators, administrators, researchers, and teaching artists for an inspiring and revealing hands-on experience in today’s best practices in arts integrated science, math, english and social studies curriculum.

Statement of Purpose:

The goal of Houston Arts Partners; Arts 4 All, is the successful development, implementation and management of a centralized arts programming and support services website specifically designed to more efficiently and effectively match educational needs of Houston Area Schools and School District’s with the resources and capabilities of Houston’s premiere artists and arts organizations.

In achieving this goal, Houston Arts Partners: Arts 4 All, will be capable of providing equitable access to quality arts education and enrichment for all students and teachers in the 53 Houston area Independent School Districts. The current working committees include 8 ISD administrators that serve on the ISD committee working simultaneously with our Arts Partner committee comprised of the 16 major arts organizations in the city.

Jefferson Todd Frazier (todd@jtoddfrazier.com)is a composer, educator and non-profit leader. He is the Founder of the American Festival for the Arts (afatexas.org), serves as Executive Director of Young Audiences of Houston (yahouston.org) – the managing partner of Houston Arts Partners (houstonartspartners.org) and is the Managing Director for The Center for Performing Arts Medicine at The Methodist Hospital (methodistperformingarts.com). His work in the non profit sector focuses on the arts as a unique and dynamic common denominator in strategic collaboration. He is currently working on research, education and accessibility collaborations between the K-12 Education, University, Texas Medical Center, and the Arts and Culture communities in Houston, TX.

He received his undergraduate and graduate training from The Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, and The Juilliard School in New York, NY. He has been honored by the American Academy of Arts and Letters, serves as a Director of the Texas Lyceum and is a Fellow of the US-Japan Foundation’s Leadership Program. On the occasion of the Juilliard School’s 100th anniversary in 2006, Frazier was recognized as one of 100 distinguished alumni and profiled in the Juilliard Journal’s “A Quiet Revolution: Juilliard Alumni and The Transformation of Education in America Through the Arts.”

As a composer, his love for history inspired his most recent work, “Thomas Jefferson”, a large scale oratorio based on the extraordinary life and contributions of the third president of the United States, receiving its Premiere on April 3, 2011 at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. by the National Symphony Orchestra, soprano Renee Fleming and conductor Christoph Eschenbach. “It’s a beautiful work and the words of the Declaration of Independence come to life in a powerful way. I’m so happy to be singing Todd’s piece for the first time and it’s particularly special for me to perform this in our nation’s capital,” Ms. Fleming.

“Buffalo Altar; A Texas Symphony,” the first work in his long list of historically inspired compositions, is the story of Texas illuminated by narrator and orchestra (or piano) and is presently touring Texas with narrators Lucian Douglass, Tommy Thompson and Barry Corbin, of Urban Cowboy, Northern Exposure and The Closer fame. “Buffalo Altar”, commissioned by The Eastman School of Music and The University of Texas with the support of Dr. Robert Freeman, has recently become a popular highlight at literary festivals and historical events across the state.
